TCC Endorses Wake County School Bonds

A RESOLUTION OF THE TRIANGLE COMMUNITY COALITION BOARD OF DIRECTORS SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF THE WAKE COUNTY SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES BONDS

WHEREAS, the mission of the Triangle Community Coalition is:
To Promote public policy that encourages a balance among economic growth, development, the environment, and community needs while protecting the rights and interests of property owners.; and

WHEREAS one of the TCC’s Core beliefs is:
Everyone benefits from growth and we believe that improving transportation, classrooms, parks and other services should be the responsibility of the entire community; and 

WHEREAS, increased growth in Wake County has continued to overburden our existing schools and libraries; and

WHEREAS, the ongoing construction of new schools and the renovation and updating of existing inadequate facilities are essential to provide safe and adequate learning environments for all children; and

WHEREAS approximately 3,000 additional students enter Wake County schools each year; and

WHEREAS, the Wake County Public Library System, which has as its mission “to promote the love of reading and to foster the pursuit of knowledge for the residents of Wake County,” also plays an active and vital role in educating our students, as well as adults in our community; and 

WHEREAS, the continued excellence of both Wake County’s public schools and libraries is essential to Wake County’s economic well being; and

WHEREAS, the selling of general obligation bonds represents the most economical, balanced and fair alternative with which to fund these critical needs.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Chairman and the Board of Directors of the Triangle Community Coalition hereby pledge their support for passage of the Wake County School System’s $450-million building program and the $35-million public library program, both of which will go before voters for bond referenda approval on October 2, 2003.
