Running a Winning Campaign

Candidates for Local Office Get Practical Advice & Fundamentals in Running a Winning Campaign

On Wednesday July 16, 2003 the Triangle Community Coalition (TCC) held its second annual “Running A Winning Campaign” candidate training school at the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS® in Cary, NC. Candidates running for office in Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Morrisville, Fuquay-Varina and even as far as Concord, NC attended the program to learn about how to put together a plan of action for a successful run for office. Several TCC members who plan to run for office in the future also attended the school. Fundraising, voter targeting, and get out the vote (GOTV) topped the list of items taught by seasoned political consultants from Washington, DC and Florida.

The highlight of the event came when a bipartisan panel of previous office holders---including former Raleigh Mayor Tom Fetzer, former Durham Mayor Nick Tennyson and former Chairman of the Wake County Board of Commissioners Michael Weeks---gave a first hand account about running and serving in local office to perspective candidates. Fetzer, Weeks and Tennyson each gave practical hints and advice for running a successful campaign and serving in local office.

The TCC holds a candidate training seminar every year as a way to help candidates and Coalition members interested in running for elected office---and as a way to promote leadership throughout the region. If you would like to learn more about the school please call 919-654-5418.
