| The TCC Evolves | |||

Six years ago the TCC did not exist. When several local governments—at the behest of slow growth/no growth groups—adopted a series of growth management laws, we experienced the disastrous effects of these policies that often stifle business growth, impact housing choices, and reduce individual freedoms—including the rights and interests of property owners. Consequently, a vacuum was created, and there was no real counter to the slow growth/no growth argument and subsequent policies. The TCC has naturally filled this vacuum, and we’re grateful to the vision of our founding community leaders—all life long residents of our region—who saw the threat to property rights and formed the Triangle Community Coalition. Based on what we heard this past week, the great growth debate is alive and well. We heard more of the same slow growth/no growth rhetoric first introduced several years ago. But the difference this time around is the TCC is at the table offering a more balanced set of ideas and policies to manage growth. The debate continues and—thanks to the leaders of the TCC— elected officials and citizens can now hear “the rest of the story” when it comes to growth and growth management.
