Over 100 Triangle citizens attended the TCC’s most recent lunch and learn. Attendees included TCC members, municipal officials, elected leaders and opinion leaders from across the Triangle. The guest speaker, Randal Arendt, presented his “Growing Greener” presentation to the audience at the Brier Creek Country Club on June 1, 2006.
Arendt is an advocate of preserving the most environmentally sensitive parts of a piece of land, while maximizing housing yield in proposed developments. He is a critic of zoning codes that do not allow creativity and flexibility of design in housing developments. Arendt also gave a practical (but often ignored) piece of advice to planners and developers: walk the land and inventory the most sensitive areas before designing the development. While Arendt’s unconventional methods may not work for every development, they are nonetheless useful alternatives for some developers and local officials. We would like to thank our sponsors for making this event a reality: Sara Robertson, The John R. McAdams Company, Chas H. Sells, Inc., and Toll Brothers for the use of Brier Creek Country Club. |
