Raleigh, NC (January 21, 2009) – The Triangle Community Coalition (TCC) hosted its annual conference at a January 30 breakfast event, “The State of our Major Cities – Raleigh, Durham and Cary.” The meeting featured three of the region’s top municipal officials – Russell Allen, Raleigh’s City Manager; Tom Bonfield, Durham’s City Manager; and Ben Shivar, Cary’s Interim Town Manager. The three officials discussed a range of topics facing the region – including how the economic downturn has affected the local cities.
“Having to focus on region’s growth slowing is new territory for many industries in the Triangle,” said Chris Sinclair, Executive Director of the TCC. “The economic downturn has certainly had an impact on the Triangle and we need to be prepared for this new situation the same way we needed to prepare for rapid growth.” In addition to the speakers, attendees were given the 2008 TCC Annual Report and organizational overview and introduced to the new Board of Directors. The 2008 Grassroots Award was also given to Sara Robertson. “As the national and local economies slowed down, so have sales taxes and fee revenues affiliated with the growth industry. The TCC is committed to helping its members and the community navigate this difficult economic time and making sure that the Triangle emerges ready to move forward in the near-future,” said Sinclair. The event was sponsored by Arcadis.
The TCC is a 501(c) 4 non-profit, non-partisan organization with a membership of organizations, corporations and individuals that advocate and educate on issues and policies pertaining to growth management throughout the Triangle.
